Global purchased the terminal at the Port of St. Helens-owned Port Westward Industrial Park in February 2013. Known locally as the Columbia Pacific Bio-Refinery, the facility first opened in 2008 and is home to the largest ethanol manufacturing facility on the West Coast.
Prior to Global’s 2013 acquisition, the facility began transloading crude oil shipped by rail. Since ceasing crude oil transloading in November of 2015, Global has handled only ethanol, retooling the facility and making more than $21 million in infrastructure improvements for better safety and environmental controls. Since Global’s arrival, the terminal has undergone more than 135 third-party inspections with no substantive violations.
Today, marine vessels take ethanol from Clatskanie and deliver it to destinations that include Hawaii and the Asian marketplace.
